Roof maintenance is a fundamental task for any homeowner. However, the way people maintain their roofs can vary from area to area.

The key to making your roof last a lifetime is maintenance. There are primarily 2 types of situations that need it. One is elementary grooming or one-time repairs that you can do yourself. The other is routine maintenance and emergency repairs that need the support of your roofing contractor.

Now, when we talk about the former, this mainly includes cleaning your roof, removing excess snow throughout heavy snowfalls, and cleaning your gutter and drains of debris. Basic things you should make a regular habit of. Your roof will thank you for it, and you will avoid more complex inconveniences that can arise from poor maintenance.

In the case of routine maintenance, you will need to call your roofing contractor. Ideally, your contractor should take a look at your roof every time the season changes. Alternatively, you can additionally call a service technician from your contractor every 3 months or so. In this way, they will be able to identify any faults that manage to develop into more serious problems. Your routine check should include checking the masonry, roofing materials, joints, flashings and drains.
